Antifouling extends the lifespan and increases the value of your yacht

Your yacht takes quite a beating over the course of a sailing season. So it is important to make sure that the submerged hull is well protected. You can ensure this by applying antifouling. This is a type of paint that contains repellents that prevent microscopic organisms like algae from attaching themselves below the waterline of your yacht.

Antifouling: a big job that we can handle for you

The removal and reapplication of antifouling is a big job, regardless of how many times you have done it. Yet, every yacht owner knows that putting it off is not an option. Fouling causes, amongst others, loss of speed, higher fuel consumption and depreciation of your yacht. Antifouling is essential when it comes to guaranteeing the lifespan and value of your yacht.

Prow’d will gladly take responsibility for maintenance of the submerged part of your yacht. We can advise you on which antifouling best suits you and your yacht. There are softer versions that wear away over the course of a sailing season and harder versions that lose their effectiveness over a period of time.

The choice of antifouling depends on factors that include:

  • The type of yacht that you own (yacht, speedyacht, motorised yacht)
  • Material used to construct your yacht (wood, steel, polyester)
  • Your cruising speed
  • Where you use your yacht (fresh, salt or brackish water)
  • Whether or not you land your yacht between sailing seasons
  • The layer already present

Antifouling is applied at a time and location chosen by you

We apply antifouling to the submerged part of your yacht at a time and location chosen by you. It is important for your yacht to be in a yachtyard or industrial area so that the work does not disturb other people. If you need to hire a workshop or worksite, we can easily help you arrange this thanks to our many contacts throughout the country (Netherlands).

A durable paint job that will keep you going for a long time

As soon as you have given us a time and place, we start the process. We make sure that all the products for your yacht are ready. Then we clean your yacht and sand the surface of the hull to prepare it for primer application. Before we apply the primer, we tape off the waterline with special masking tape. After this, we apply the primer and the antifouling. Thanks to this method, you are guaranteed a durable paint job that will keep you going for a long time.
